NORTH WEST The decomposin­g body of a 70-year-old man was found on his farm in the North West, police said yesterday.

The half-naked body of Walter Niedinder was discovered 40 metres away from his Brakfontei­n farm by his neighbours.It was not clear when and how Niedinder was killed. The farm is in the Buffelshoe­k area, near Mahikeng. It was believed Niedinder and a friend had an argument during the weekend.

Niedinder’s friend is still missing and his whereabout­s are unknown. PRETORIA A 14-year-old boy has been arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm in Lotus Gardens, Pretoria West, police said yesterday.

It is alleged that the boy had taken a firearm to the high school in the area where he is attending. He was seen with the firearm and police were alerted.

Police searched the boy’s home and found the Tec-9 semiautoma­tic pistol hidden under the bed.

When questioned about the gun he said it belonged to his uncle, who denied the gun was his. NATIONAL South African youth feel that government is not doing enough to manage labour unrest, according to a survey released by research company Pondering Panda yesterday.

In total, 72 percent of respondent­s – across 3 998 South Africans aged between 18 and 34 – felt there was no evidence to suggest that government’s plans for dealing with labour unrest were working.

There were few difference­s across demographi­c groups.
