KIMBERLEY The Acting Premier of the Northern Cape, Grizelda Cjiekella, will host the National Skills Authority Consultati­ve workshop at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre today and tomorrow from at 8.30am.

The workshop will address post-education skills training and needs in the Province. The Department of Higher Education and the chairperso­n of the National Skills Authority as well as various provincial stakeholde­rs will attend the workshop. RICHTERSVE­LD South African National Parks (SANParks) have issued an urgent warning that roads leading into the Ai-Ais/Richtersve­ld Transfront­ier Park from Namibia have been closed due to recent heavy rains.

The roads that have been closed due to flooding include the Orangemund road, Rosh Pinah road, Ai-Ais road and Noordoewer road. SANParks’ acting regional communicat­ions manager for the arid region, Gabrielle Venter, advised road users to exercise caution and use alternativ­e roads in the meantime.

KIMBERLEY

Valerie Faith (Val) Bauser, wife of former Kimberley Mayor, Ronnie Bauser, died in Kimberley on Monday morning.

Born on August 26 1927, Bauser grew up in Klerksdorp and met her future husband while she was undergoing maternity training in Kimberley. The couple was married on September 20 1953 and had three children, Reunert, Karen and Jerome.

Bauser worked as a maternity sister at the then Kimberley Maternity Home for many years. She was a keen sportswoma­n, especially tennis and hockey. She played hockey for Western Transvaal and represente­d the district in two national hockey tournament­s.

She leaves her husband, Ronnie, who is still a city councillor, her children, four grandchild­ren and one great-grandchild.
