SCHOOL SPORTS
DHS Sports Day It’s that time of the year again when Diamantveld High School (DHS) hosts their Sportsday. The action which takes place today and tomorrow happens at venues all around the city; and depending on what your preferred sporting code is you can visit the different fields to enjoy topquality school sport.
DHS has been holding their Sportsday since 1970, and since 2009 the event has been sponsored by the University of the Free State. Without a doubt the event is one of the biggest sporting highlights on the local calendar with no less than 31 rugby, 22 hockey and 87 netball matches taking place during the two days.
The fixtures for the rugby tomorrow take place at the DHS A and B fields and the KHS A and B fields. Netball matches will be played at the DHS netball courts today and tomorrow, while the hockey takes place at the Northern Cape astro also today and tomorrow, with games being played at O’Grady’s tomorrow.
The Sportsday has seen top schools from the Northern Cape, Free State, North West, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Gauteng participating over the years; and once again this year teams from all over the country will be participating.
The teams participating this year makes for quite a weighty list – Diamantveld High, Affies Boys and Girls from Pretoria, Duineveld High, Kimberley Girls’ High, Kimberley Boys’ High (KHS), Adamantia High, Hopetown High, Wildeklawer Sports Academy, Technical High, Hartswater High, Douglas High, Eunice Girls’ High, Fichardtpark High and Landboudal.
