ANC conference off to rocky start

-

Mac Jack said that he accepted his axing from the provincial cabinet “positively”.

“I knew that it was the premier’s own personal decision and not the organisation’s. It cannot be about performance or anything else. We must remain focused on the ANC and its alliance partners and cannot allow anything to distract us. We must ensure that it is a successful conference … we all know that it was postponed several times,” said Jack.

Meanwhile, the two newly appointed MECs were sworn in by Northern Cape High Court Judge President Frans Kgomo yesterday.

ANC Women’s League deputy secretary and ANC MPL Gail Parker was appointed as the new MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, while ANC MPL Alexandra Beukes was appointed as the MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison.

Beukes, who served as chairwoman and member of several committees at the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature and is a former mayor of the Khai Ma Municipality, said she was “humbled and overwhelmed by the honour bestowed on her by the premier and the ANC”.

“I have always been a servant of the people, who entrusted me to serve in these positions since 1993,” said Beukes.
