Race raises fashion stakes

THIS weekend’s Flamingo Park Race will not only focus on the horses and jockeys but the prestigious event also promises to be a feast for fashionistas.

This year’s theme is “Dress to Win” and local designers will be taking the opportunity to help the fashion conscious put their best foot forward.

Young local talent like Fort Joko’s Lucky Jokozela, Nkosinathi Yaso of JNY Creations and House of Rude designer Noni Mpuang are among those who will be showcasing their creations and view this weekend’s event as an ideal chance to make an unforgettable mark on the fashion industry.

“Designing has always been my dream,” said 26-year-old Yaso earlier this week. “I started off with sketches before moving on to dressing my older sister’s dolls.

“In Grade 12 I decided to design professionally and studied fashion design.

“Being part of this weekend’s event and having my creations on display is a wonderful opportunity to further my career.”

“I always knew that being able to dress and be stylish sets you apart from the masses,” added 26-yearold Mpuang. “House of Rude is a clothing brand for the obnoxiously stylish.”

Among others, Fort Joko will be dressing one of the event organisers, Colin Bosman. When asked his opinion about the theme, Jokozela stated that the fact that this was open to interpretation would allow ample opportunity for self expression.
