Action happens tomorrow

OVAL Racing takes place at the Oval Track (the old show ground off Kenilworth Road) tomorrow.The gates open at 2pm and racing is expected to start at 6pm.

The event promises bumper-to-bumper thrills and spills, with drivers from all over the country participat­ing. Tomorrow’s event forms part of the last qualifier for the South African Championsh­ips that take place on September 23 in Kimberley.

• The V8 class, where great interest will be seen with stiff competitio­n between former “SA” No 1 Allan Booysen, current“ZA”No 2 and No 3,Artista and Charlie Rothman in action.

• In the 1660 class, Rothman will be up against “SA” No 2 Percy Noah from East London, along with Jamie Zwiegelaar, Ian Lavarack, Conrad van Bosch, Mark Hayward, Rudi Abbott, George Noah, the Reyneke Brothers, and André Fouche.

• The Hot Rod class sees Piston Motors, represente­d by Dewalt Ralft and Riaan Esterhuize­n up against Rotary Motors, with Robert Hayes from Springbok, Gerhard Venter and Dries Viljoen from Welkom.

• The beginners class features some interestin­g competitor­s which should be quite good fun to watch. Three women Lhandi Strydom, Cheryl Lavarack and Bolla van der Walt will be joined by two youngsters, Markie Hayward (15) and 11 year-old Stefan Brits.
