Cops awarded for fight against crime

THE TRACKER Awards Ceremony, which recognises those police officers who contributed positively in the recovery of stolen and hijacked motor vehicles in the Northern Cape, was held in Kathu recently.

Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Peter Shivuri, attended the event, which recognised members in various categories, including Special Mention Award, Best Individual Award and Best Unit Award.

Ten members competed in the category of Best Individual Award, which was presented to Captain Doggy Magugu, who also scooped the Special Mention Award.

The latter is presented to members and units of the SAPS who have made a contribution to the fight against vehicle crime in South Africa by fulfilling a valuable co-ordination and support role between Tracker and the relevant SAPS unit or police station.

The ZF Mgcawu Cluster Highway Patrol team won the Best Unit Award, which recognises the unit which made a valuable contribution towards the fight against vehicle crime in the Northern Cape by the recovery of stolen or hijacked vehicles making use of Tracker Connect Technology.

Other competitors in this category included the John Taolo Gaetsewe and Frances Baard Clusters’ highway patrol teams.

Winners

The provincial individual and unit winners will attend the National Awards Ceremony on October 6.

The winners of the national event will receive an all-expenses paid trip to attend the IAATI (International Association of Auto Theft Investigators) International Training Seminar, which will be held in Pittsburgh in the USA.

This year the IAATI International Training Seminar was hosted in Cape Town and saw members participating in a week of training on the very latest information on vehicle crime investigation, motor vehicle identification, vehicle crime trends etc.
