IN CELEBRATION of Heritage Month, the second annual local Miss Heritage pageant will take place on September 22.

According to the founder and organiser of the event, Nkosinathi Yaso, this year will be bigger and better than last year.

“Miss Heritage is all about celebrating and empowering local talent. Besides crowning Miss Heritage 2017, local cultural groups and poets will also be given a platform to showcase their talent,” Yaso said.

He added that Miss Heritage is an edutainment production that educates not only the participants, but the audience on national heritage and diversity.

Current Miss Heritage, Keamohetsoe Monethi, believes that even though she will be giving up her crown, she won’t be “giving away her title”.

“I have learnt and gained so much after winning Miss Heritage and I will continue to strive to live up to this title.

“However, the next winner needs a chance to grow and develop.

“The new title holder should expect both negative and positive associations to the title, it’s important to note that this is a responsibility and not a glam affair,” she stated.

During her reign, Monethi partnered with a local NPO called The All Stars and became part of awareness programmes which promotes the interaction and sensitivity to the human race.

The pageant takes place at the Flamingo Casino Conference room.
