Akharwaray ‘pleased’ with the audit outcome
THE RE-APPOINTED Municipal Manager of the Sol Plaatje Municipality, Goolam Akharwaray, has stated that he was “pleased” with the municipality’s audit outcome for the financial year 2016/17.
Akharwaray said that the unqualified opinion on both the financial audit, as well as the performance audit, was testimony of the municipality’s ongoing quest to ensure good and clean governance.
“The performance information was considered by the Auditor General (AG) as meeting both the tests of ‘usefulness’ and ‘reliability’.
“This opinion underscores the opinion of the National Treasury that the Sol Plaatje Municipality’s budget meets all three assessment criteria of ‘credibility’, ‘relevance’ and ‘sustainability’.
“This is a considerable achievement given the background of a decade of disclaimers of audit outcomes. In fact, in the last six years, we had initially progressed to three qualified opinions and in the last three to ‘unqualified’.”
According to Akharwaray the AG’s report is testimony to the fact that the interventions embarked upon over the years have yielded positive results.
“The collective value of all these measures has resulted in overall improvements in the affairs of the municipality and resulted in the positive views of independent analysts that the municipality is amongst the better performing local authorities in our country..”
