NCC OUT TO END THEIR YEAR ON A HIGH

- DAVE ALEXANDER SPORTS REPORTER

Northern Cape Cricket captain Werner Coetsee polishing up on his batting skills in the nets ahead of today’s match against Northerns. AFTER their emphatic victory of an innings and 34 runs over Border in their last outing in the Sunfoil Three-Day Cup two weeks ago, Northern Cape Cricket

(NCC) will be hosting Northerns at the Diamond Oval in their last match for 2017, starting today.

The teams will then face off on Sunday in their CSA One-Day Challenge, where NCC will be hoping to do better than they did against the same Border outfit, losing that 50-over encounter by three wickets, with just seven balls left in the match.

NCC coach Loots Bosman told the DFA that although there is a good spirit amongst the players, they need to continue where they left off against Border in the three-dayer. He said they need to consolidate their batting performance and once again post decent scores.

Bosman added that they would continue working on playing for each other as a team this time round.

“The guys need to gel and play as a team and not as individuals, as cricket is a team sport,” he explained.

“Once again a good start will be required together with a great effort to continue,” he added.

“We need to continue playing our brand of cricket, like we did against Border in our previous outing and to do improve even further in this game against Northerns, who have some useful players in their mix.”

The coach said that he was once again looking for some big performances by their key players, who need to be supported by their teammates. Yet it is obvious that in this squad everyone brings their best to the pitch, and this is exactly what the team needs to end the year on a high.

“I am extremely pleased to have Werner Coetsee back in the team, especially with his previous batting performance scoring 170 in the three-dayer and 82 in the CSA One Day Challenge as he brings a wealth of experience to the squad and seems to have stabilised the middle order,” said Bosman.
