KURUMAN The John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) SAPS drug task team on Friday arrested a 34-yearold man for dealing in drugs.

Police spokespers­on, Captain Sergio Kock said police followed up on informatio­n about drug dealing in Kuruman.

“The premises was searched and drugs was found in the suspect’s flat. The members continued the search and also found laptops and cameras believed to be stolen property. The estimated street value of the drugs is R15 000 while the stolen property is estimated at R50 000,” Kock said.

PORT NOLLOTH Police in Port Nolloth followed up on informatio­n of drug activities at a known drug house in Nollothvil­le and conducted a joint operation involving Crime Prevention Port Nolloth, detective branch Port Nolloth and the K9 Unit Springbok.

Kock said that a search warrant was executed and when nothing was found inside the house, members went outside and searched the plot.

“A deserted fishermen’s boat was spotted outside the back gate and was searched. During the search dagga was found hidden at three different locations on the boat. The dagga seized weighed 2.885 kilogramme­s and has with an estimated street value of

R4 300.

“As the dagga was found outside the property, no arrests could be made,” Kock said.

KIMBERLEY The Northern Cape SAPS Provincial Office, involving Police Emergency Services, Operationa­l Response Services, Operationa­l Command Centre, Firearm, Liquor and Second Hand Goods (FLASH), the Provincial Crime Prevention Unit and PSA members, this weekend held a Safer City Operation in Kimberley with the focus on visible policing and crime prevention. Kock said that the operation had the Kimberley Central Business District “painted blue” and involved foot and vehicle patrols at crime hotspots, shopping centres and malls.

Police also conducted random visits to second hand dealers. Safety hints pamphlets were also handed out and stop and searches were done during the operation.

A 23-year-old man was arrested in the Louis Pienaar location in Richmond for dealing in dagga. Kock said dagga with an estimated street value of R900 was confiscate­d.

“The police attended to a complaint at a local Primary School where school children were allegedly smoking dagga on the school premises. On arrival the police could not find any drugs but did a follow-up investigat­ion that lead them to the suspect’s house.

“There they found dagga hidden under the bed and money under the mattress. The suspect is expected to appear in the Richmond Magistrate’s Court,” Kock said.

KIMBERLEY The MEC for Environmen­t and Nature Conservati­on, Pauline Williams, stated that partnershi­ps should be establishe­d with municipali­ties to deal with litter in cities, townships and villages.

Eco school awards ceremony, adding that all open spaces in communitie­s should be closed as dumping sites were creating all sorts of environmen­tal problems.
