IN THE NEWS Bumper Easter
WITH Easter Weekend around the corner, visitors and residents of the Northern Cape can look forward to a jam-packed entertainment programme.
The Northern Cape Tourism Authority spokesperson, Tebogo Velembo, yesterday said that the Northern Cape Easter Campaign was “jam-packed with activities that would appeal to a wide range of audience”.
“If you’re in the Diamond City, music lovers will be able to enjoy the riveting vibes of the Diamonds & Dorings Festival and Dr Tumi’s Live Gospel Concert or enjoy adventure lifestyle fun during the Battle of the Provinces Spinning at Monstermob Race Course.
“Whilst attending the events, make use of the opportunity to explore the rich mining history of the region by visiting the Big Hole Museum complex. Take a vintage tram into the city, go for a game safari at the nearest game reserves or at the Mokala National Park or spend some time experiencing the culture of greater Galeshewe on a township tour.
“At the many great museums in Kimberley you can learn more about the origins of the city and its people,” Velembo said.
He added that for travellers heading to the Kalahari, the Kgalagadi Jazz Festival taking place at Wrenchville Stadium in Kuruman was a “must-see”.
“The Kalahari Region is a must for every visitor who really wants to explore the heart of the Oasis of the Kalahari. Visitors can make time to explore some of the attractions not to be missed in Kuruman, such as the incredible Eye of Kuruman, a natural fountain delivering approximately 20 to 30 million litres of crystal clear water daily in the heart of the town, the miraculous Wonderwerk Caves about 45 kilometres south of town, where archaeological excavations have been done of the 140 metre long caves.
“The Moffat Mission is also a must, with its historic buildings including the old homestead, the fully renovated church and a book shop. The Workshop Ko Kasi in Mothibistad offers an authentic African experience including African Eco Spa Culture and Nature, tours and events.
“For an incredible nature experience, visit the Witsand Nature Reserve approximately 170 kilometreS from Kuruman,” Velembo said.
He added that the Apollo Theatre in Victoria West would present an Easter programme featuring theatre productions and music performances.
“The warm hospitality of our people is guaranteed to make travellers feel welcome, while the incredible nature, culture and adventure opportunities in the Province promise to entice visitors back.
“Celebrate with the first people of the Kalahari during the Kalahari Desert Festival; explore the hidden gems at the newly ‡Khomani San Cultural Landscape World Heritage Site; or go on a self-drive experience in one of the private game farm reserves and the famous Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
“Other experiences that awaits travellers include sand boarding, nature hikes, picnic on the sand dunes and campfire stories underneath the star-studded heavens,” Velembo concluded.
