this match is not going to be about who wins but is much ado about football.

Mosimane in particular says he is interested in gauging his side’s advances in the game itself. He, with the blessing of club president Motsepe, has chosen the best of the best to help him get a well rounded picture of the club’s internatio­nal compatibil­ity and competitiv­eness.

Now one might think that this is pie in the sky stuff for Mosimane and Sundowns.

But it is not.

You see Sundowns have to rightly up their internatio­nal game seeing they are the South African club most likely to see competitio­n at that level.

They have already notched up kudo’s as the only Mzansi side this side of 1994 to have had a legitimate invitation to the Fifa Club World Cup tournament.

With their scintillat­ing form on the national front and elsewhere, it is most likely that Sundowns could be back at that tournament or a similar one, before long, watch this space.

I dare say that the spectacle tomorrow night will go a long way in closing that gap in football where most of us would likely have a passing interest in the goings on in Russia where the World Cup is due to take place later next month.

It is not nearly enough, but right now we as losers cannot be picky.

We better remember too that Barcelona comes from the country that won the World Cup right here on our doorstep not so long ago in 2010. The likes of Uruguay-born Luis Suarez who dismantled our national team and many others will be in the Barcelona line-up.
