Police seek rape suspects

THE KIMBERLEY police are requesting the community’s assistance with informatio­n regarding three young male suspects, aged between 16 and 18 years, who are wanted for allegedly attempting to rape a 46-year-old woman.

According to police spokespers­on, Captain Sergio Kock, the alleged incident occurred on June 18 this year at about 10.20am.

“The victim was walking to work in Phakamile Mabija Road when she was approached by three unknown male suspects under the bridge. The suspects allegedly grabbed the victim and one suspect tried to grab her handbag, another tried to undress her while the other suspect threatened her and assaulted her sexually. She screamed for help and the suspects fled the scene,” Kock said.

He added that in an unrelated incident, Kimberley police have requested the community to come forward with any informatio­n that could lead to the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with attempted rape and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

“The incident happened in Misombo Street, Platfontei­n. The victim alleges that she was accosted by an unknown assailant, who assaulted and undressed her with the intention of raping her. The victim fought back and her attacker fled in unknown direction,” Kock said

Kock further stated that the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit in Prieska was requesting assistance with the tracing an alleged rapist.

“On Monday, August 20, 2018, at about 2pm, a 29-year-old female victim was allegedly at the hiking spot just outside Prieska on the R357. An unknown male suspect accosted her with a knife and dragged her to a nearby veld where he allegedly raped her. Anyone with informatio­n can call Detective Constable Denzil Swarts on 079 697 8603.”

Meanwhile, the Northern Cape police have welcomed the sentence handed down to Ayanda Ambraal, 29, in the Noupoort Regional Court recently for attempted murder.

“The accused had an argument with his girlfriend, Doreen Van Wyk, 28, when he stabbed her twice with a knife. Van Wyk was admitted to hospital for a month. Ambraal was arrested and stayed in custody up until he was found guilty and sentenced in the Noupoort Regional Court on August 17, 2018,” Kock said.

Police also yesterday welcomed the sentence that was handed down to Minah De Wee, 26, in the Noupoort Regional Court recently.

“De Wee and her boyfriend, Isak Bassie Riet, 37, were apparently involved in a quarrel that led to the fatal stabbing of Riet. The court found that De Wee stabbed her boyfriend, Riet, more than five five times on December 3, 2017 and he died on the scene. The accused was arrested on the same day and received R1 000 bail. De Wee was found guilty and sentenced in the Noupoort Regional Court on August 17, 2018,” Kock said.
