NC ma­tric ex­ams ‘free of any ir­reg­u­lar­i­ties’


MA­TRIC pupils across the North­ern Cape yes­ter­day com­pleted the 2018 Na­tional Se­nior Cer­tifi­cate (NSC) ex­am­i­na­tions.

A to­tal of 12 198 full-time can­di­dates were reg­is­tered for the NSC ex­am­i­na­tions in the North­ern Cape.

The North­ern Cape De­part­ment of Ed­u­ca­tion said yes­ter­day that it “com­mended” all the pupils, par­ents, prin­ci­pals, in­vig­i­la­tors and all de­part­men­tal staff for their in­valu­able sup­port and com­mit­ment to en­sure a cred­i­ble NSC ex­am­i­na­tions, “free of any ir­reg­u­lar­i­ties”.

De­part­ment spokesper­son, Ge­of­frey van der Merwe, said that three mark­ing cen­tres in the Prov­ince would of­fi­cially open on De­cem­ber 1 and close on De­cem­ber 12.

“A thor­ough process was con­ducted to en­sure that qual­ity mark­ing of an­swer scripts will take place. The mark­ers were ap­pointed as mark­ers, se­nior mark­ers, chief mark­ers, deputy chief mark­ers, in­ter­nal mod­er­a­tors, cen­tre man­agers, deputy cen­tre man­agers and ex­am­i­na­tion as­sis­tants,” Van der Merwe said.

The Min­is­ter of Ba­sic Ed­u­ca­tion, Angie Mot­shekga, will hold a press con­fer­ence on Jan­uary 3 2019 to re­lease the na­tional re­sults. The North­ern Cape will re­lease pro­vin­cial re­sults on Jan­uary 4 2019, which will be fol­lowed by the Pro­vin­cial Ma­tric Awards.
