Lo­cal vet’s re­cep­tion­ist in court for theft

A KIM­BER­LEY man is fac­ing 20 charges of theft af­ter he al­legedly stole more than R100 000 while work­ing as a re­cep­tion­ist at a lo­cal vet­eri­nar­ian.

War­ren du Plessis, 39, from Bel­gravia in Kim­ber­ley, appeared in the Kim­ber­ley Mag­is­trate’s Court on Fri­day. He faces 20 charges of theft re­lat­ing to cash al­legedly stolen from the Kim­ber­ley Vet­eri­nary Clinic in Dal­ham Road while he was em­ployed there as a re­cep­tion­ist by Dr Dono­van Smith.

The State al­leges that Du Plessis stole R102 693 from the Kim­ber­ley Vet­eri­nary Clinic from Jan­uary 2017 to Au­gust 2018 dur­ing sep­a­rate in­ci­dents.

He was ar­rested on Au­gust 18 this year and sub­se­quently re­leased on R3 000 bail.

On Fri­day, Du Plessis’ case was post­poned to next month.
