City to sizzle on long weekend
KIMBERLEY residents can brace themselves for a sizzling hot and dry long weekend.
The South African Weather Service has predicted scorching hot temperatures, reaching into the upper 30 degrees Celsius, this weekend.
A low of 17 deg C and a high of 38 deg C is predicted for today, while tomorrow temperatures will range from a minimum of 18 deg C to a high of 38 deg C. On Sunday a low of 17 deg C and a high of 39 deg C is predicted, while Monday will go from 20 to 38 deg C.
No rain is expected during the weekend.
The Sol Plaatje Municipality yesterday indicated that it was expecting a large number of residents to visit the city’s public swimming pools, as a result of the extreme heat, and that extra measures would taken to ensure the safety of visitors.
Municipal spokesperson, Sello Matsie, said that additional lifeguards would be stationed at the public swimming pools, in anticipation of increased visitor numbers. This includes the Riverton and Langleg pleasure resorts just outside of Kimberley.
Matsie urged all revellers not to swim while under the influence of alcohol.
He added that the scheduled nightly water cuts would, however, continue, as the municipality is still struggling to meet water demands.
