MEC visits fire-hit family
THE NORTHERN Cape MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Bentley Vass, yesterday visited a Galeshewe family following a fire at their home earlier this week.
The Moeng family home in 15391 Phetelo Street, Galeshewe was badly damaged and many of their belongings were destroyed by the fire on Tuesday night.
According to one elderly family member, Elizabeth Moeng, the fire destroyed many personal belongings, including the children’s school uniforms and identification documents.
The house is home to 15 family members including a disabled mother of two. They all managed to escape the fire unhurt.
During the MEC’S visit yesterday, he found family members still struggling to come to terms with their horrific ordeal.
“We are deeply sorry for the ordeal that you had to go through during this time of celebrations. However, I will make sure that we assist you as far as we can. My main priority is to ensure that we repair the damage to the house in order to make it accessible and conducive for you as a family to move back in. I have instructed a team from my department to work with Sol Plaatje Municipality in order to ensure that we speed up the process and also engage other relevant departments to assist in the this regard,” Vass promised.
