Former HOD responds to charges

-

THE FORMER acting HOD of the Northern Cape Department of Health, Nomathemba Mazibuko, has responded to charges laid by Afriforum against her in November 2018.

Afriforum alleged that the department incurred irregular expenditure of R574 million during the 2016/2017 financial year and claimed that the “excessive expenditure could have been prevented had Mazibuko done her job”.

Mazibuko has pointed out that she could not be held responsible for expenditure incurred during the 2016/2017 financial year at the Department of Health.

A letter provided to the DFA states that she was only appointed as acting HOD, effective March 1 2017, the last month of the financial year being referred to in Afriforum’s allegations.

“Clearly Afriforum did not do its homework. As acting HOD for just one month in the 2016/2017 financial year I cannot possibly be held responsible for the alleged irregularities and expenditure.

“For that matter, I learnt from friends and family about this matter being in the media and, to date, no law enforcement agency has been in contact with me about the charges laid against me,” Mazibuko said.

Furthermore, Mazibuko pointed out that she has approached her lawyer, who will be dealing with the allegations by Afriforum.
