Dept warns of in­tern­ship scam

NORTH­ERN Cape res­i­dents have been warned to be on the look-out for a fraud­u­lent scam re­gard­ing an in­tern­ship pro­gramme.

In a state­ment re­leased yes­ter­day, the Depart­ment of Pub­lic Works said the in­tern­ship pur­ported to be ad­ver­tised by its na­tional depart­ment.

“The depart­ment would like to dis­tance it­self from such and would like to warn mem­bers of the pub­lic to be care­ful and not fall prey to these scams.

“The ad­vert might look le­git­i­mate but it is not, the plat­form that is used and the con­tents of the ad­vert are all wrong.

“They are mis­lead­ing and en­tic­ing un­sus­pect­ing prospec­tive ap­pli­cants,” the depart­ment said.

Pub­lic Works and other gov­ern­ment de­part­ments ad­ver­tise through the Depart­ment of Pub­lic Ser­vice and Ad­min­is­tra­tion (DPSA) web­site un­der va­can­cies as well as through na­tional news­pa­pers’ va­can­cies or jobs sec­tion and not through un­known web­sites.

“When in doubt, mem­bers of the pub­lic should ver­ify the au­then­tic­ity of the ad­verts by con­tact­ing the Na­tional Depart­ment of Pub­lic Works Hu­man Re­sources Re­cruit­ment rep­re­sen­ta­tive, Muriel Ma­gane at 012 406 1552,” the state­ment con­cluded.
