FOCUS on local Madrid and Porto have to settle for goalless draw

-

REAL Madrid played to a goalless draw against Pescodia Porto before a full house at the Galeshewe Stadium in a SAB League clash on Sunday afternoon.

This was the second time the two teams faced off against each other in as many weeks. A fortnight ago they went head-to-head in an African National Congress sponsored match which ended 1-0 in favour of Porto, also at the very same Galeshewe Stadium. On that occasion Porto walked away with R30 000 prizemoney.

Sunday’s match started at a brisk pace, and its entertainment value was high and the action was eagerly lapped up by the spectators. In the opening quarter-hour it seemed as if Madrid would score when Kenneth Matlakala unleashed a thundering shot towards the Porto goal; goalkeeper Andries Chaka, however, confidently cupped the ball to his chest. Both teams pushed for the advantage, testing each others’ defences, with the Madrid goalkeeper Kagisho Moropefela also having to pull out all the stops to keep a clean sheet.

In the second half both sides brought fresh legs on to the park, and the strikers from each side stepped up and launched numerous attempts at each others’goal almost every minute of the second half.

Greef said was happy with his team’s performance.“our players were on duty today like true soldiers. It’s a pity they could not score,”he said.

Greef added that sometimes the officiating was not of a good standard. “The match officials who were on duty must also do their bit and give us a fair shake at the game,”he told the DFA.

Porto coach Arlon Wilson said the match was very tactical but he was pleased with his sides overall performance.“if we can do this week in and week out we will go far in the league,” he said. GIDDY VAN ROOYEN
