Knights need to slay Lions

THE VKB Knights will be hoping to turn things around when they take on the bizhub

Highveld Lions at the Diamond Oval in their CSA T20

Challenge match starting at 6pm on Saturday.

In their last outing, in Cape Town the Knights came short against the WSB Cobras on Tuesday evening, narrowly losing the encounter by just five runs.

The Knights won the toss and sent the hosts in to bat first. The Cobras, thanks to good knocks by David Bedingham (50),Vernon Philander (30 not out) and George Linde (22 not out) scored 150/5 in their 20 overs, while Ryan Mclaren (2/30) was the pick of the Knights bowlers.

The Knights looked on course for victory at 111/2 in the 15th over of their reply thanks to Patrick Kruger’s 57 off 38 balls (3x4s, 3x6s).

However, they then lost their way, and even though 19 runs were needed from the final two overs with five wickets in hand, veterans Philander (1/17) and Rory Kleinveldt (1/26) were miserly enough to secure the win.

It was the Cobras’fourth win in five games this season as they moved six points clear at the top of the table. The central franchise, meanwhile, were left at the bottom of the table and still searching for a first win.

Looking forward to Saturday’s match, both Northern Cape

Cricket CEO Eugene Jacobs and Knights coach Alan Kruger called on supporters to come and fill the Diamond Oval on the day in support of the home team, and help spur the team on to turning their season around.

Tickets for Saturday’s game are available through Ticketpro at R50 each.
