KIMBERLEY A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened at the Kimberley police station after two vehicles, one of them a police vehicle, collided at the Carrington Road and Du Toitspan Road intersecti­on at around 4pm on Saturday.

A woman and a boy were travelling in one of the vehicles involved in the accident, a Toyota Fortuner, while an individual in plain clothes was driving the police vehicle.

The boy sustained a bloody nose.

According to bystanders, the Fortuner allegedly tried to swerve into Carrington Road to avoid the police vehicle before the collision.

Police spokespers­on Lieutenant-colonel Dimakatso Mooi said that one person was admitted to hospital with injuries and the matter is under investigat­ion. KIMBERLEY Two vehicles, a Mazda sedan and a VW Golf 7, collided head-on yesterday at around 3am on the second bridge into Kimberley from Ultra City on the N12.

The police confirmed that two passengers were certified dead on the scene and had not yet been identified.

A driver and three passengers were travelling in the Mazda. Only one of the passengers survived the crash.

The driver and two passengers in the Golf were all taken to hospital with injuries.

Traffic had to be diverted to the Kenilworth subway, which was flooded with water.

Emergency services, including provincial ambulances and the fire department were on the scene.

Debris was scattered across the accident scene, while one of the vehicles was lying on its roof.

Mooi said that a case of culpable homicide has been opened for investigat­ion.
