THE SOL Plaatje University in Kimberley has seen an influx of prospective students attempting to secure space to study at the university.

Spokesperson for the university Mosima Mehlape said on Friday that this number had perceptibly increased after the release of the matric results.

“Our admissions department has been working tirelessly to ensure all walk-ins are assisted. We have thus far received more than 3 800 applications.”

According to Mehlape, the university is still accepting late applications for all undergraduate programmes with the exception of the Bcom and Higher Certificate in Heritage Studies.

“The closing date for late applications is dependent on the availability of space for the programmes.”

She added that due to the large number of walk-ins received, the university was currently processing a large number of applications.

“Applicants are asked to be patient as the university takes due care in processing and finalising the outstanding applications.”

For the 2020 academic year, the university can only accommodate 780 undergraduate registered students.

Mehlape pointed out that a new programme has been introduced this year, a Higher Certificate in Court Interpreting, for students interested in the interpreting sector.

“Late applications are still being accepted for this programme and further details can be obtained from the university’s website.”

Registration for first-year students will take place on Thursday, January 30 and Friday, January 31.

Returning students can register from Monday, February 3 to Wednesday, February 5, while late registration will take place on Thursday, February 6 and Friday, February 7.

The official first year’s welcome will take place on February 8 and lectures will start on February 10.
