Rapist gets life in prison

A 24-YEAR-OLD Northern Cape man was sentenced to life imprisonment by the De Aar Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after he was found guilty of four counts of rape.

Police spokesperson Captain Sergio Kock said that a 20-year-old woman was accosted while she was on her way to visit a friend on July 28, 2017. “She was forced into a vacant house in the area, where the accused forced her to the ground, assaulted and raped her repeatedly.”

Kock said the accused was arrested five days after the incident and he had remained in custody until he was sentenced.

The provincial head of the Northern Cape Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit, Brigadier Nicky Mills, commended the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Lebogang Serati from the De Aar FCS, and also thanked the community for their assistance in the case.
