SAFA Northern Cape on Tuesday re-circulated the rules for the second round of the Nedbank Cup competition which will feature five games this coming weekend at various stadia around the western part of the province.

Willem Coetzee circulated the competition rules to all teams for them to scrutinise ahead of the second round of matches.

The upcoming fixture tomorrow will see Benfica attempt a repeat of their victorious campaign in the first round when they beat Okiep-based club Olympics 2-1 in a Namakwa district derby which was hosted at Matjieskloof Stadium.

In the second round Benfica will lock horns with Kakamas Juventus in a 10am encounter at the Okiep Stadium.

Whichever of the two teams emerges victorious will contest against Upington’s Tornado FC in the second game of the day at the same venue.

Tornado have done themselves proud gaining entry to the second round by securing a memorable but slight 1-0 victory

over the ambitious Upington City at the MD Jacobs Stadium in the first round last Sunday.

Tornado will be on standby tomorrow afternoon at 3pm to receive any of the winners who will emerge unscathed from the day’s first game.

Meanwhile, in Olifantshoek tomorrow, the town’s finest team – Olifantshoek Young Stars – will turn out against NC Pro’s at the Ditloung Stadium at 3pm.

NC Pro’s had staked their claim to fame last week in the first round by slaughtering His Desire Sporting 5-0 in a penalty shootout at the Ditloung Stadium. NC Pro’s will definitely be an altogether different prospect to tackle compared to HD Sporting whom they clobbered in the opening round.

De Aar’s United Rovers, will likely fancy themselves to advance to the semi-final round of this competition where they have a significant track record as two-time semi-finalists from the amateur side of Nedbank Cup competition in the last five years. In his memorandum to the competing teams Coetzee reminded teams of the finer details of the competition rules.

“At all knock-out stages where the score is level after 90 minutes, penalty kicks will be taken as per the FIFA Laws of the Game.”

Regarding the rules for the sides emerging in the competition from the non-professional ranks who participate in this competition Coetzee said, “Only at the ABC Motsepe League finals, extra time of 15 minutes each will be played if the score is level after extra time, penalty kicks will be taken (if matters are still level after extra time).”
