Jonathan Butler to perform in city
KIMBERLEY will host its first international concert after the Covid pandemic when renowned international superstar Jonathan Butler shares the stage with national artists Dr Victor and The Rasta Rebels as well as several local artists.
The one-night-only concert, headlined by the Cape Town-born Butler, who now lives in Los Angeles, will take place at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre on Saturday, March 19.
Tickets for the concert, which is being presented by Zikmo Promotions, are available at R250 per ticket at Shoprite and Checkers.
Local artists at the concert include the fast growing band Empire, and the sensational, sultry voices of Deekamo and Deetone, who will set the tone and open the stage for the stars.
Zikmo Promotions promised to provide the best for music lovers in the city and the Province while providing a short window of escapism from all the issues the people face every day.
According to the organisers, the concert is a culmination of long and difficult engagements in trying to secure a date in the busy performance schedules of both Jonathan Butler and Dr Victor.
They had to take into consideration that Butler has other scheduled concerts in Botswana, Mozambique, Cape Town and Durban.
Local organiser and director of Zikmo Promotions, Zikie Molusi, said Kimberley can be proud that all the stops were pulled in order for the city to also be counted as an esteemed destination to host this revered musician.
He said the highlight of the evening will be to allow an opportunity for local bands to rub shoulders with their musical heroes as they showcase their craft in front of a packed Convention Centre.
“It’s not many artists that have received accolades from former president Nelson Mandela, who recognised Butler’s music as having inspired him during his imprisonment in more ways than one,” Molusi said.
“Born in South Africa under the shadow of apartheid, and raised in poverty, Butler was the first non-white artist to be played on South African radio and to appear on national television.
“Though his musical abilities would take him away from the world he grew up in, Jonathan would neither forget the plight of his fellow South Africans, nor the man that led them to freedom.”
Butler expressed gratitude to the organisers for reaching out and stopping at nothing to make sure that he finally pays a visit to Kimberley.
Butler promised to have music lovers eating out of the palm of his hands with his heart-warming and humbling, melodic voice.
Dr Victor, whose real name is Victor Khojane, is equally looking forward to giving his “homies” his best performance.
He has been crafting and creating an uplifting up-tempo sound for more than 40 years after he left for Johannesburg with his childhood friends for greener pastures in the 1980s.
Members of the public are requested not to waste time and get their tickets immediately as the concert is definitely billed to be a sold-out show.
