Big Brother dream comes true for city student
WITH the country grappling with higher stages of load shedding, “Big Brother Mzansi” fans in Kimberley and the Northern Cape have also had to bear the weight of power outages when their viewing was interrupted on the weekend.
The Big Brother channel (Dstv 198) went down on Saturday evening, leaving fans of the Northern Cape’s representative on the show, 22-year-old contestant Muthusiemang Bika, dubbed “Young Pappi”, in the dark.
Luckily for them, the channel was restored on Sunday morning at around midday.
Mzansi Magic attributed the 14-hour transmission outage to Eskom’s Stage 6 load shedding.
Local boy Bika was among the first 23 housemates to kick off the show in January this year.
For Bika, it was a dream come true to receive a call from Big Brother to join the drama at the Big Brother house.
He sees the platform as a great opportunity to express himself as an individual.
The 22-year-old from Club 2000, Galeshewe, attended Olympic Primary School before completing his schooling at Hartswater Hoërskool.
He went on to study information technology at Sol Plaatje University
for three years before the institution recommended that he complete his fourth year in the US.
He is expected to graduate later this year in April.
Bika has been praised for being goal-driven and having a strong belief in himself.
His message to his peers is: “As long as you believe, you can become what you want to be.”
Bika’s younger sister, Masego Bika, said that her brother always told his family that one day he would be a superstar.
“He is very confident, bubbly, outspoken and focused on running his photography business,” said Masego.
The two siblings were raised by a single father, with the support of family members, following the passing of their mother.
“Upon learning that the Big Brother application window was open, he (Bika) did a recording with the intention to submit it. But he decided that the recording wasn’t good enough and he made another one, which proved to be his best work,” said Masego.
Northern Capers have meanwhile been urged to vote for one of their own - “Young Pappi”.
To vote, fans need to go to the Mzansi Magic web, log in or sign up with their details, select ‘Young Pappi’ from the list of housemates, enter the number of votes they want to cast and press ‘Vote.’
Every individual has a maximum of 100 votes.
