School Shoe Drive a huge success thanks to the ‘power of youth’

IN A BOLD stride towards enhancing the quality of education and ensuring the well-being of students, the Unamandla Isagoentle Foundation, in collaborat­ion with the Provincial Department of Education and Flamingo Sun Internatio­nal, launched a School Shoe Drive in Kimberley recently.

The project was launched under the umbrella of the Social Compact legacy impactful programme, the Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign (QLTC).

The Unamandla Isagoentle Foundation, is led by 15-year-old Unamandla Vilakazi (Miss Teen Mundial South Africa 2023, and

supported by young talents like 15-year-old author Mosimanega­pe Leeuw, and artist Monwabisi Banjiwe of Amandla Dança Teatro.

Bangiwe showcased the power of youth in driving positive change through art during the event.

It was attended by the Acting Head of Department, Dr Michelle

Ishmail and other officials from the department and other stakeholde­rs.

In a remarkable display of community solidarity, the School Shoe Drive has successful­ly collected 400 pairs of school shoes, which will be distribute­d to 16 schools in the Frances Baard District.

Vilakazi, who spoke passionate­ly at the event, emphasized that every child deserves the opportunit­y to pursue their dreams, regardless of their background.

She explained that this initiative does not only provide practical support, but also instils hope and determinat­ion in learners and students, empowering them to strive for success.

“The launch of the School

Shoe Drive marks a significan­t milestone in the journey towards achieving quality education for all,” she said.

“It not only addresses the practical needs of students but also symbolizes a collective commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders.”

As the initiative gains momentum, it is poised to make a lasting impact on the educationa­l landscape, paving the way for a brighter future for all.

The project garnered widespread support from various stakeholde­rs including the National Education Collaborat­ion Trust (NECT), the South African Council for Educators (SACE), and the South African Democratic Teachers

Union (SADTU), among others.

Private sector entities, recognizin­g the importance of investing in education, also lent its support to the initiative.

Vilakazi also emphasized the importance of a positive mindset for a positive future, encapsulat­ing the spirit of the School Shoe Drive.

She urged everyone to ‘Spread Love’ and contribute towards creating an environmen­t conducive to learning and growth.
