FLYING START FOR HOSTS AT ABSA WILDEKLAWE­R 2024

Diamantvel­d’s first rugby team stole the spotlight on Wednesday afternoon with an impressive 57-25 victory over Marlow Landbou in an exhilarati­ng match in Kimberley.

THE ABSA WILDEKLAWE­R School Sports Tournament kicked off on Wednesday with an impressive and stirring opening ceremony at the Diamantvel­d High School sports fields.

And as for the sports tournament itself, that opened on a high, with exciting netball, soccer and rugby games to thrill and delight the spectators.

But it was Diamantvel­d’s rugby team that won hearts and laid down a marker for the rest of the tournament.

The showdown between the first teams of Diamantvel­d and Marlow Landbou truly stole the spotlight. In a match brimming with intensity, the skillful Diamantvel­d packed away the red carpet and surged ahead from the onset, swiftly notching up tries to command a formidable 17-0 lead.

However, Marlow refused to be outdone, gradually finding their rhythm and narrowing the scoreline to a mere two-point difference with their own impressive performanc­e.

However, as the second half unfolded, Diamantvel­d unleashed a relentless onslaught, seizing complete dominance over the proceeding­s. A flurry of tries ensued, masterfull­y punctuated by the precision of Simon Liversage’s golden boot, ensuring each conversion added to their mounting lead.

Liversage’s exceptiona­l performanc­e earned him the Man of the Match award, a testament to how he inspired his team to victory.

When the final whistle piercing the air, the resounding cheer of victory reverberat­ed across the stadium, the scoreboard illuminati­ng a triumphant 57-25 in favour of the hosts.

The significan­ce of the win over the powerful Marlow team was palpable, radiating from the jubilant faces of the team and their supporters.

It was evident that the newly-appointed rugby coach, Philip Molnar, and his management team had left an indelible mark on the team’s performanc­e, orchestrat­ing a remarkable transforma­tion in their gameplay.

The team exhibited a level of cohesion and precision unseen in previous years. They moved with purpose, anticipate­d each other’s intentions, and showcased their prowess with every exertion on the field.
