Local footie season kicks off with a bang
Young Bafana will kick-off their season at Lwandle Stadium on Saturday (24 February).
The team, who will compete in the Helderberg Local Football Association (LFA), will want to secure three points for a victory in their opener.
Coach Graham Knott said not only will this event showcase their freshly scouted local talent, but also include many of their coaches and interns in the team.
“Our objectives for this season and this match is to get as many supporters as possible to the matches, because these events are for everyone,” he said.
“In doing so, we would like to invite people from across the Helderberg to join together and support us.
“President Cyril Ramaphosa in his State of the Nation address said: ‘As we rid our minds of all negativity, we should reaffirm our belief that South Africa belongs to all who live in it. For though we are a diverse people, we are one nation’.”
Knott said to support this idea, Young Bafana will provide the following on Saturday:
▶ charity raffle at R1 per ticket – great prizes from various sponsors will be up for grabs;
▶ braai station at the field;
▶ a 30-minute tour of Lwandle after the match with Young Bafana’s under-15 coach and outreach manager Veron Peter;
▶ transport for people from Somerset West and Strand to Lwandle, and back with the academy bus when arranged as such; and
▶ secure parking at the stadium and much more.
Young Bafana will play Santos at 13:15 and admission is free.
Visitors and supporters are urged to take along donations of clothing and soccer boots for beneficiaries and their families
