PV show­cases its drama tal­ent

SOM­ER­SET WEST – Eight drama pro­duc­tions by learn­ers of Parel Vallei High School have been en­tered into this year’s Aard­klop Pronk Podium Com­pe­ti­tion, an out­stand­ing achieve­ment for the school’s Drama De­part­ment.

The one-man plays have pro­vided five matrics and three Grade 11 learn­ers with an op­por­tu­nity to ex­pe­ri­ence a drama sea­son un­der lock­down, with new rules and con­di­tions. All the pro­duc­tions have also been sub­mit­ted to the on­line Mon­tague Youth Arts Fes­ti­val.

The plays en­tered into the com­pe­ti­tion are In­dus­try with Angelique Filter, di­rected and writ­ten by Yanou Pien­aar; Three Girls in the Chair with Mem­ory Mahlangu, di­rected by Darryl Spi­jk­ers (head of PV Drama) and writ­ten by Spi­jk­ers and Bry­oni Cur­rin; Pho­to­graph with Dy­lan Janse van Rens­burg, di­rected by Spi­jk­ers and writ­ten by Spi­jk­ers and Cur­rin; The With­ered with Nerise Malan, di­rected by Pien­aar and writ­ten by Malan; Nog ’n

Dag op Nuwe­land, with Reike Fer­reira, writ­ten and di­rected by Spi­jk­ers; Meisie in die Se­quins Rok with Anke Tough, di­rected by Spi­jk­ers and writ­ten by Anita Moller and Spi­jk­ers; Soet­wa­ter with Lienke Frylink, di­rected by Spi­jk­ers and writ­ten by Lily van Zyl; and Wen­telkind with Juné Kruger, di­rected by Spi­jk­ers and writ­ten by Rozaan Vos.

The PV Drama De­part­ment hopes to bring the pro­duc­tions to life on stage once a lo­cal the­atre is per­mit­ted to re­open, but it will be made avail­able for stream­ing on­line.
