College’s hockey girls run, walk for Hope and Light
SOMERSET WEST – The under-18A girls’ hockey team of Somerset College made the most of their cancelled participation in the St Mary’s Waverley Hockey Festival, covering the 1 400-km distance from Somerset College to St Mary’s by running or walking over four weeks on home turf. They set a target of raising R21 000 by completion. Furthermore, they decided the funds raised would be donated to Hope and Light Community Welfare in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village. Each team member also donated a blanket to the 25 children at the home. Special mention must be made of team captain Stephanie Bihl and her deputy, Michaella Beart, who contributed 276 and 235 km respectively. The school thanked all who supported the initiative. The team (back from left) are Ainsleigh de Kock (coach), Lauren Venter, Stephanie Bihl, Emma Anderson, Michaella Beart, Mikayla Boettger, Jemma Falkenberg, Alexia Falkenberg and Sophia Downes.
