New lifeblood for Cape flows
The first of several groundwater bore-holes that form part of the Table Mountain Group (TMG) Aquifer and the City of Cape Town’s water strategy was officially launched at Steenbras Dam last week. Council initiated drilling operations of the Steenbras Wellfield during the drought crisis and it is now producing its first yield of groundwater. Representatives of the municipality, including mayor Dan Plato and Xanthea Limberg (Mayoral Committee member for Water and Waste, pictured) were taken on a tour of the facility during the project launch last Wednesday (5 August). The TMG Aquifer is believed to be the largest in the world, with drilling reaching a depth of 710 m.
