PRODUCTION HELL TO DELIVERY HEAVEN
The numbers are impressive. The Tesla Model 3 was the world’s best-selling electric car in 2019, for the second consecutive year, with more than 300,000 cars delivered. Model 3 also ranked as the best-selling electric car in Europe in 2019, with more than 95,000 cars delivered in its first year in the European market.
The Model 3 also set records in the Netherlands and Norway by becoming the best-selling passenger car in both markets in 2019. Furthermore, it ended up as the best-selling electric car in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, New Zealand, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland, and Taiwan.
In addition, the Model 3 ranked as the bestselling small and midsize luxury car in the U.S in 2018 and 2019, outselling the Mercedes-Benz C/
CLS/E-Class, BMW 3/4/5/ Series and Audi A4/5, among all comers.
In early 2020, the Tesla Model 3 also surpassed the Nissan Leaf to become the world’s best-selling electric car ever, with global sales of nearly 600,000 units since inception up to June 2020. sales continued to rise month-on-month, from just 3,635 cars in April, to 11,095 in May, and whopping 14,954 in June, catapulting the Tesla to the top of the electric vehicle sales charts in China for the first time. Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai now has installed capacity of 200,000 Model 3s per year, and with the adjacent and significantly bigger Model Y factory now nearing completion, Tesla looks set to dominate the Chinese and Asian electric car markets for years to come.
