THE END IS NIGH
Petrolheads, savour these remaining moments of mechanically-induced explosions and exhaust pops because the end for the internal combustion engine (ICE) is nigh. In 10 years, we might refer to ourselves as ‘Volt-heads’ (I want to coin that one) or induction enthusiasts on our social media profiles. Yet, scary though it may be, it brings with it new and improved experiences. Case in point: BMW has just unveiled its i4, a fully-electric four-door coupé that’s set for a market launch later this year and will even have an M-performance model – seemingly highlighting the fact that the days of V8 misbehaviour and soundtracks are steadily drawing to a close. According to BMW, the i4 will be available in different versions with distance claims of up to 590 km. It will also accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in a mere four seconds. It’s all awe-inspiring, but the days of visceral drama will be missed. Let’s genuinely savour what time remains.
