Margot Robbie and Michael Fassbender were originally cast to star as Alex and Ben.

KATE WINSLET developed arthritis in her toe after working on the film. She explained that it was “because my character injures her leg very, very badly so I had to limp for almost the entire film and because I was loading so much weight onto the one side”.

The film was shot in Canada, on the border of Alberta and British Columbia provinces, on peaks 3 000 metres tall.

Cinematographer Mandy Walker said director Hany Abu-Assad “wanted everything to be as realistic as possible. And the actors were so amazing. We really went to those locations and went up to between 10 000 and 11 000 feet [3 050-3 350m], we got up in a helicopter, and it got down to -40°C sometimes”.
