PUTTING A RING ON IT

DRUM - - Ed's Note -

Mduduzi Tlou didn’t realise proposing to his 16-year-old girlfriend at school would get them suspended (‘ We’re in love’, 12 October).

The suspension stems not from the proposal, but from the indecent behaviour by the couple as they kissed after

getting engaged. On those grounds I agree with the suspension. Why, though, are we not commending these youngsters for showing maturity at such a young age?

After all, an engagement ring doesn’t have an expiry date − they can get married in a year, two years or even 10 years. Just saying. SANDILE NTULI, EMAIL
