SCREEN TIME DURING THE HOLIDAYS
The school holidays are a challenging time to put limits in place, but it’s vital.
“Childhood development doesn’t stop when school breaks up,” says child psychiatrist Dr Brendan Belsham. “Endless hours on YouTube isn’t healthy for children, even if there’s no homework to do.”
Here are his suggestions for alternatives during the holidays:
Enrol your child in a holiday programme or a sports clinic.
Enlist the help of grandparents or other family members if you’ll be working. Sometimes they just need to be asked, and this quality time is beneficial for both the younger and older generations.
