When she was three Sylvia (50) suffered severe third- and fourth-degree burns to her back and various parts of her body after falling into a bath of hot water. It left her with scars – both physical and emotional. She now runs the website Love Disfigure, which aims to empower other people with socalled disfigured bodies by helping them to accept themselves. Through the protest she wanted to represent every body type, regardless of age, ethnicity, disability, differences and, most importantly, size, Sylvia says. “Calling for diversity among all brands has always been my mission,” she wrote on Instagram. “We’ve become so used to seeing one body image we find it difficult to open up our minds to want to see others. Open your eyes and heart to change.”
