I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT BUT I DON’T HAVE A LICENCE

DRUM - - Advice -

Someone bumped into my car while I was waiting at a traffic light. I don’t have a driver’s licence.

Does this mean the other driver won’t be held liable even though the accident was his fault? ANONYMOUS, KHAYELITSHA

Driving a vehicle on a public road without a valid driver’s licence is against the law, but this doesn’t mean the other driver can’t be held liable for reckless driving. You can sue the other driver for damages you suffered in your car.

However, as the other driver, you might be fined by the traffic department for driving without a licence.
