Eat Out

THE ROYALE

-

BEST FOR Over-the top fun. FOOD It’s a Cuban-inspired bar and eatery – inexpensive and unpretentious. You’ll find an eclectic mix of burgers, sandwiches, ceviches and even curry on the menu, which is divided into bar snacks and mains. From the snack offering, the crispy fried chicken bites are great: tender deep-fried nuggets covered in tangy home-made mayo. Favourites from the mains include crisp salt-and-pepper squid with a papaya chilli dip and mojorubbed pork roast that’s slow-cooked and sticky with orange basting, served with a fresh and crunchy mayo-free slaw. For dessert, opt for ice cream or an almond waffle with rum and caramel. DRINKS A great selection of rum-based and classic cocktails. Wine offerings are cheap and cheerful. SERVICE Most nights are busy, which means service can be slow, but management is always around to help. AMBIENCE Fabulous décor: plants galore, tropical wallpaper, and bright neon signs. The central bar is a gorgeous feature and the exterior courtyard is magical. (KL)
