BEST FOR Intimate breakfasts. FOOD This very popular breakfast place is the home of some of the best breads and pastries around. Start with some excellent coffee, intense and packed with flavour, while deciding between a large flaky croissant filled with creamy scrambled eggs and bacon or smoked trout with spring onion and scrambled eggs on a mosbolletjie. Make sure you ask for the slow-roast tomato confit to jazz it all up. Soft mielie pap with burnt honey butter is another favourite. Lunch sees the arrival of some delicious soups like split pea or roasted tomato. DRINKS There’s no alcohol at the moment, but the fruit juices are brilliant. SERVICE Friendly and laid-back, there’s no rush here. AMBIENCE The place is tiny: seven tables inside and similar outside. The freshly baked breads on the wall over the serving area will drive you wild with carb desire. (GL)
