JOOSTENBERG BISTRO
BEST FOR Choice – sit in the restaurant or picnic on the lawn with goodies from the deli. FOOD For breakfast, the French toast with fynbos honey and bacon is mouth-watering, or go big with the Frenchman’s: assorted cheeses, charcuterie, a baguette, a croissant and a financier. Start lunch with the charcuterie plate with excellent farm bread. The croque monsieur is absurdly good, while other must-try mains are pan-fried line fish in a chenin blanc reduction, pork neck vindaloo, dry-aged rump steak or the Joosten-burger, starring a fantastic ground beef rump patty. Country-style staples for dessert; the dark chocolate mousse with crème anglaise is fantastic. Note: you can’t order food between 11.30am and 12pm. DRINKS An extensive wine list, not just Joostenberg wines, plus beer, cider, homemade milkshakes, lemonade and ginger beer. SERVICE Friendly. AMBIENCE A big open space that’s lively and loud but very convivial. The large fireplace makes the restaurant toasty in winter. (LST)
