ÎLE DE PAÏN

-

BEST FOR A buzzing vibe and extraordinary food. FOOD Master baker Markus Farbinger and chef Liezie Mulder are synonymous with this beacon of baked goods. Breakfasts range from superfood smoothies to hearty hunger busters. Liezie loves unexpected flavour combinations inspired by her travels. A trip to Japan is behind a marvellous duck confit with Asian orange salad, steamed dumplings filled with spinach, and mushrooms and peanut coconut sauce. Pissaladière flatbread comes with soft cheese, caramelised onions, kalamata olives and rocket. Finish with apple strudel redolent of cinnamon, or a baked chocolate tart. DRINKS Wines are selected primarily by taste and likability, so expect a good range. Coffee and hot chocolate are off-the-charts delicious. Rooibos chai, juices of the day and homemade lemonade. SERVICE Staff smiles are abundant and contagious. AMBIENCE Sit on a picnic table on the tree-shaded patio or perch at a bistro table inside the two-storey restaurant. (CP)
