Bolobedu is producing many artists in the area and all of them are exceptionally loved by their fans. DJ Janisto is a Limpopo-based Bolobedu music artist whose music career has recently taken him to places. His musical journey was not as easy as it seemed, but the talented Janisto made it possible for his dream to come true. Being inspired by other provinces and countries having their own music styles, which specifically represent them. He is currently in a duet called “Double-Trouble” with his all times music partner “CK”. Janisto opens up to Empowered about his musical journey.

Choosing the genre:

It was difficult because the genre or kind of music we are doing has been undermined by many, especially those from other provinces. They called it “Bakete” and some called it “Mmino wa makompo” (music of the uncivilized), but we kept on soldiering on until now the music is having great word of mouth with many fans in the country”, he says.

Having pride in the music and culture:

Janisto together with is partner “CK” were guests on the South African SABC 3 show, Expresso. Having pride in their culture and the music as a whole, Janisto says that they have realised that there is no way one can make their culture taken serious if one does not go around the world with cultural pride. “It is to our wish that the Khelobedu language be officialised and people get to speak it like any other languages”, he says.

Advise to the youth:

Getting into the music industry takes nothing, but strong passion and eager to do it. “It is not as easy as it may seem. Concentrate on what you want, know your objectives. Do not give up when things seem to be not going accordingly. Have vision of whatever you want to do and by doing that, everything will be alright”, says Janisto. The “Be Careful” hit makers, Janisto and CK have a strong relationship as music partners and friends. will entertain and leave treasurable knowledge within one’s life. “We always make sure that every release is something that conveys good message and advise everyone through the music. Everything has its unique sound compared to others”, he says.

What to expect:

Janisto and CK are currently working on a project that features some of the national artists as well as locals. All the singles that have been recorded will be released as an album towards September this year.
