Wärtsilä experiencing ‘great success’ across Africa

-

International energy company Wärtsilä’s GEMS Digital Energy Platform has successfully provided the integration between solar photovoltaic and thermal installations for mining customers in Africa, most recently in Mali, Tanzania and Burkina Faso.

“Further, working with flexible energy solutions provider Aggreko in Mali, we have installed four Wärtsilä Modular Block enclosures with one medium-speed Wärtsilä 32 engine in each, providing 40 MW of energy to Resolute Mining’s Syama off-grid gold mine,” says Wärtsilä Business Development Manager Sujen Balakisson.

In a video interview at the Investing in African Mining Indaba, he highlights that the company used the event to showcase how it can help the mining companies identify and implement the solutions needed to decarbonise their power systems, taking into consideration their long-term planning and carbon dioxide emissions reduction targets. This holistic approach builds on Wärtsilä’s extensive capabilities in power system modelling and analysis, energy system optimisation, and flexible power generation technologies.

Ensuring that it shares these key messages among the mining sector was a key objective for Wärtsilä at this year’s Mining Indaba.

“What sets us apart from our competitors is our solutions, regional experience (which includes the largest engine power plant installed base in Southern Africa) combined with our understanding of the market, our clients and the technologies required to provide a reliable and flexible energy solution,” emphasises Balakisson.
