The ver­dict: One The rea­son: More en­ergy may ini­tially be ex­pended by bound­ing up the stairs two at a time, but a study by a UK Univer­sity found that those who climbed a 15-me­tre high stair­way five times a day burnt 1 200 kJ per week go­ing one step at a time, com­pared to those who burnt 1 100 kJ go­ing two at a time. This is be­cause you’re ex­er­cis­ing for a longer pe­riod and in­creas­ing mus­cle con­trac­tion as well.
