Not get­ting enough shut- eye can cause more problems than just nod­ding off at your desk. Stud­ies show that lack of sleep weak­ens the im­mune sys­tem and can lead to health problems, in­clud­ing high blood pres­sure, poor mem­ory, de­pres­sion, heart dis­ease, and di­a­betes. ‘ In­som­nia can be caused by stress and anx­i­ety, as well as eating too late and drink­ing al­co­hol,’ says sleep spe­cial­ist and re­searcher Pro­fes­sor Kevin Mor­gan. Ex­er­cise daily, avoid caf­feine, and en­sure your bed­room is dark, airy and has a tem­per­a­ture be­tween 18˚C and 23˚C when you go to bed.
