Toyota updates and adds to the Hilux range

-

Toyota has made some changes to SA’s best selling bakkie range.

The ‘Tacoma face’ which was first applied to the Dakar edition some months ago, is now also the new look for SRX and Raider derivatives.

In SRX guise the newlook model adopts a black-themed front design.

Colour-coded bumpers remain while inheriting a matching stylised skid plate on the lower apron and black side steps and side mirrors.

Auto light control incorporating a follow-mehome functionality has been added to the SRX’s spec sheet.

On the interior front, SRX models gain a four-speaker touchscreen infotainment system (previously utilised on Raiders only) with Bluetooth and USB interface, all accessible via steering switches; while an accompanying reverse camera bolsters the convenience specification.

Raider

The Hilux Raider now has a chrome grille surround, which complements the black horizontal slats and the electric-folding side mirrors and door handles are also finished off in chrome.

The LED fog lamp surrounds incorporate horizontal and vertical elements in black and chrome.

Full LED headlights and Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) are standard.

The touchscreen infotainment system has been upgraded to include navigation and DVD playback capability.

The system is USB- and Bluetooth-enabled and comes with six speakers, all controlled using the mounted steering wheel controls.

The most obvious change inside the Raider, however, is the full black interior inherited from the Hilux Dakar with a black headliner and metallic black trim finishes.

New models

A number of new utilityfocused derivatives have been added to the Hilux range across all three body styles.

Among the single cab models an additional automatic derivative, the Hilux 2.4 GD-6 ‘Raised Body’ SRX, has been added.

It is equipped with a sixspeed automatic transmission.

The Hilux SR grade (fleet and mining) now includes a 2.4 GD-6 Raised Body Manual variant (previously only available in 4x4 configuration).

The 2.7 VVTi SRX has been discontinued.

In the Xtra cab department Toyota has introduced a new mid-grade 2.4 GD-6 SRX Raised Body derivative with a sixspeed automatic gearbox.

Double cabs

Toyota has added a new grade level in double cab form called ‘S’.

The Hilux S is an entrylevel workhorse grade that foregoes comfort and luxury in favour of functionality and durability.

This new grade features a PVC interior, J-Deck tailgate design with cargo hooks and rides on 17inch steel wheels.

The Hilux S is further distinguished by its black bumpers and grille.

It’s offered with either the 2.7-litre petrol engine with 122kW and 245Nm (five-speed manual) or the 2.4GD-6 engine with a six-speed manual transmission.

The double cab SR range has expanded with a 4x2 ‘Raised Body’ derivative which also features the J-Deck design and black bumpers and grille.

There’s also a new Hilux 2.4GD-6 SRX 4x2 Automatic while the 2.7 SRX has been discontinued.

Chassis cab

Toyota has reintroduced three chassis cab variants, which include the 2.0 VVTi 5-speed manual AC workhorse, 2.4 GD-6 5-speed manual AC workhorse and 2.4 GD-6 sixspeed manual SRX 4x4.

Lastly, the Inferno Orange metallic exterior paint colour from the Hilux Dakar is now offered across the Hilux range.

All Hilux derivatives are sold with a three-year/100 000km warranty and a nine-service/90 000km service plan as standard.
